Men's JV4+

2008 FIRA State Championships

April 10-11, 2008 - There is only one way to describe FIRA 08; A great finish to an even greater year. The Men's Varsity and JV boats had an excellent showing, proving that FSU Crew can compete in an arena of scholarship teams with scholarship athletes. The Men's Varsity 4+ recorded their fastest time of the year, but barely missed qualifying for finals by finishing in 4th place. The Men's JV 4+ took 4th in their final, besting our in-state rivals University of Florida and University of Central Florida, but succombing to Stetson University., Jacksonville University, and Rollins College.

A highlight of the day was the Men's Double earning a silver medal in a field full of varsity programs. The duo of Michael Rodriguez and senior Connor Poske made a strong push in the last 300 meters of the race, seperating themselves from the pack and missing the gold medal by a couple of strokes.

The Men's 2nd Varsity 4+ had another exciting finish. They crossed the line in 3rd place with a time of 6:38.6, just a few seconds behind UCF and FT.

The Women's Novice 8+, a boat that struggled with schedule and practice conflicts early in the year, rallied together for the event. Looking fluid and composed as they passed the finish line, they placed 5th, besting a single crew from UF.

Once again, we must send our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the family members and friends who attended. Your support means alot to us and we
couldn't do it without you.
